My name is Dawn Lewis-Thomas and my son Clay Lewis is a Sophomore on the Wrestling Team. I am a member of the Wrestling Booster Club Board and as such have responsibilities for the club including the Web Site, Spirit Sales and coordinating Hospitality for our team. With this many areas, I am sure you will hear from me often, and want to thank you in advance of your support of this growing team.
First let me say what an awesome event our pre-season outing to Lawton Oklahoma was last weekend! It was so great to see the number of participants we had travel to an out of state event and especially the number of parents that followed. For those of you that made it up to Lawton, I hope I had the opportunity to meet you and if not hope to meet you soon. For those of you that were not able to make it, I especially hope to meet you at outing here in Texas!
As I mentioned one of the services the booster club provides is hospitality. Hospitality is provided to ensure that our wrestlers are kept hydrated and refreshed with healthy snacks at the all day Saturday duals and tournaments. This is possible through the donations received by our parents and as such we ask for volunteers to provide these donations each week to the traveling tub. Some of the staples carry over from week to week, but most need to be replenished and that is where the weekly donations come in.
I will bring the traveling tub, which I am now referring to as “Nutrition on the Go” out to each event, and would like to schedule parents to provide donations each week. As I mentioned some of these items carry over from week to week, so I will provide weekly suggestions for what we need to replenish to those that have volunteered for the week. As you can imagine providing snacks for 25 to 30 hard working boys can be a challenge, so we are looking for as many volunteers as possible.
The tub is already stocked with 6 lbs of Peanut Butter, and two large jars of Jelly, which should last at least part of the season. The other staples that we will provide each week include the following: Bread (white & wheat), granola bars, goldfish, cheeze its, pretzels, snack crackers, etc. Parrishable items such as fruit and lunch meat can also be provided but possibly on a smaller scale to eliminate waste if not consumed. On occasion we will also need to replenish paper towels and plastic knifes. I do bring the tub home after each meet, and refrigerate any items that require so and can sustain another week.
With that being said, please let me know if you would be able to volunteer to donate and which outing you can provide refreshments for. Please take a look at the schedule and send an e-mail to dawn.thomas@tcbtexas.com to confirm your date. If a date is already selected, I will ask for alternatives and if we are fortunate enough to have more volunteers than dates available I will begin to double up to help each of you save money. I have already received volunteers for the Santa Slam on 12/19 and the District Varsity Tournament on 2/6 and look forward to hearing from the rest of you with dates that you can volunteer.
Also, if you have not already done so and are able, please send a case of bottled water with your wrestler to school and it will be transported to the Hamilton’s courtesy of Ryan Hamilton and iced and brought to the weekly outings by his father Richie Hamilton.
Thanks again for all your support of your Wrestler and the LHS Wrestling Team. Dawn
